Information about tantalum solid-electrolyte capacitors:
1. Main components of tantalum solid-electrolyte capacitor:
- slug, produced from tantalum powder;
- Ta2O5, electrochemically formed on slug surface, performs as a dielectric;
- MnO2, solid semiconductor, produced via electrochemical decomposition of manganese nitrate, performs as a cathode.
Further coatings provide target values of dielectric loss tangent and Z due to ohmic contacts between anode, cathode and capacitor terminals.
2. Distinguishing features of tantalum solid-electrolyte capacitors, produced by OJSC "Elecond".
Tantalum solid-electrolyte capacitors are used in special airborne and ground communication equipment, devices, functioning in severe climatic conditions and higher mechanical load.
Working temperature range: from -60 °С up to +85 °С; from -60 °С up to +125 °С.
Qualification tests, conducted by OJSC "Elecond", showed the minimum operating time of solid-electrolyte capacitors (testing conditions: +85 °С, rated voltage) as follows:
- 83,000 hours (30,000 hours in compliance with Specs) for K53-1 A type, military series;
- 300,000 hours (30,000 hours in compliance with Specs) for K53-1 A type, specialized military series;
- 540,000 hours (30,000 hours in compliance with Specs) for K53-7 type, military series.
To extend operation period, it is preferable to use resistance (min 4 Ohm per 1 V of working voltage) between a power supply and a capacitor.
K53-1A and K53-7 types - hermetically sealed capacitors.
K53-65 type - molded chip capacitor (plastic case). The type is characterized by protected design, low impedance and low leakage current and is applied in special electronic devices with rigid requirements to capacitor sizes and mass. Case sizes are in compliance with IEC requirements. K53-65 type is available in military series.
K53-66 type - tantalum solid-electrolyte capacitor in a sealed steel cylinder case. Due to use of high charge tantalum powders K53-66 type has reduced sizes in comparison with its domestic alternates.
Изделие K53-68 type is a molded chip - capacitor (plastic case). This capacitor is manufactured in two versions: standard and low-profile. Case height of low profile version doesn't exceed 2.2 mm. K53-68 capacitor types have an enhanced shock resistance (40 000 g for single shocks) and high resistance to special factors. The capacitor can be used in air-force equipment and commercial products.
K53-69 type - molded chip capacitor (plastic case). The type is characterized by protected design, low impedance and low leakage current and is applied in electronic industrial devices with rigid requirements to capacitor sizes and mass. Case sizes are in compliance with IEC requirements. K53-69 type is available in general purpose series.
K53-7 type is the only nonpolar solid-electrolyte capacitor in Russia.
In comparison with electrolytic capacitors, solid - electrolyte capacitors are characterized by smaller change of parameters during storage as well as reduced aging. Besides, they can operate at voltages lower than rated value; it allows extension of the capacitorsў operating time.
